Invitation: Community Workshop NFDI4Microbiota
On 16 November 2018, the Joint Science Conference (GWK) decided to support the establishment of a National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) in Germany. The aim of the NFDI is to systematically manage scientific and research data, provide long-term data storage, backup and accessibility, and network the data both nationally and internationally. The NFDI will bring multiple stakeholders together in a coordinated network of consortia tasked with providing science-driven data services to research communities. Over the next ten years, up to 30 NFDI consortia will be funded. In June 2019, the German Research Foundationt (DFG) opened the call for applications.
ZB MED - Information Centre for Life Sciences has founded the consortium NFDI4Microbiota together with the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ), the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), the German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (de.NBI), the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and the Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec). The consortium participates in the application process for DFG funding.
The vision of the NFDI4Microbiota consortium is to make the analysis of multi-omics data related to microbial species and diverse microbiomes consistent, reproducible and accessible to all fields of the life science community. It will assist researchers with different scientific challenges to understand individual microbial species and communities as well as the interaction between the species in them.
The first community workshop is aimed at scientists from the community of microbial research. At the workshop we will present the current plans for the consortium NFDI4Microbiota and would like to enter into a direct exchange with you.
